When the new ABB Network Manager system goes online in Spring 2007, it will resolve these challenges and give Sonelgaz real-time monitoring and control of the entire network. Operators will be able to pinpoint faults immediately, make the best use of network capacity and loading, and better manage service crews and work scheduling.

The system will be run by one primary and three secondary control centers, each equipped with ABB’s Network Manager SCADA/DMS (Distribution Management System).

As part of the solution, ABB is upgrading 31 key substations with UniGear medium-voltage switchgear panels, REF542plus protection and switchbay control units, and substation automation systems based on MicroSCADA and RTU560 remote terminal units. A further 533 substations and 355 overhead isolators will be equipped with REC523 control, protection and monitoring units.

Each substation and overhead isolator will transmit real-time data to the control centers via an ABB telecommunications system using WLL (Wireless Local Loop) and UHF radio technology.
